As you walk down the 17 kilometer Coastline Scenic Area of HsinChu City, be sure to take some time to scan the beaches for abandoned PVC Boats. The beaches are dotted with PVC Boats that are either hidden behind trees, tied to a distant stake, or just left there alone, cursed to slowly fall apart over time.
Why the fisherman decided to abandon the PVC Boats is a mystery. Perhaps an old-timer had fallen ill or passed away, leaving behind the boat as his legacy, a memorial to the countless mornings he spent on the open sea. Or perhaps the boat was damaged, and the fisherman determined that it was too much effort to try and remove it, finally assuming that it would eventually be removed by city government.
Whatever the reason, it's fascinating to see the various DIY Boat Designs these local fisherman used to create the PVC Boats. Below are some pictures I have taken while walking along the beaches of the HsinChu City coastline.
As you can see in the photo above, sometimes the PVC Boats are left on the dirt beach, with nothing keeping it anchored other than a rope and a wood stake in the ground.
After taking a closer look, you can almost assume that the boat was left and abandoned. Below are a few more pictures of some possibly deserted and neglected PVC Boats.
